TWO young boys in Bali have written to thank the Margaret River community for its support during their school years.
Adi, 15, and Komang, 14, are long-time family friends of Margaret River resident Karen Thomas, who visits them every year.
“I was there for their birth,” Ms Thomas said.
Sadly, Komang’s mother died of cervical cancer and the boys cannot afford their education, so Ms Thomas decided to raise money to help them.
For years, she has hosted ‘100 board’ competitions outside Margaret River businesses including Newsxpress, Riverfresh IGA and Auger Bites.
About $500 was raised each year and sent to Adi and Komang.
“They wouldn’t have gone to school if I hadn’t started to help them,” Ms Thomas said.
A handwritten letter from the boys said “Adi and Komang would like to say a big thank you to everybody in Margaret River for helping us go to school in Bali”.
