The federal government will contribute $1 million to the World Health Organisation to help control the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop will announce on Sunday that Australia's contribution will help fund medical supplies and equipment to stop the spread of the disease. The Ebola outbreak has claimed 1427 lives according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, with 2615 suspected cases recorded.
Vietnam's Health Ministry said last week that two Nigerians with fever symptoms had been sent to Ho Chi Minh City's Tropical Disease Hospital for isolation after they arrived in the city by plane.
The funding comes on top of the $20 million Australia already provides to support the WHO's global health activities and money provided to help Red Cross recovery efforts.
The government has also allocated resources to raise awareness at major Australian international airports about Ebola symptoms and to provide health checks for people returning from affected countries such as Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Australians planning to travel to affected countries in West Africa are being advised to reconsider their travel plans while those already there are advised to leave.
