An elderly woman was trapped behind the steering wheel of her car this morning after an accident at the intersection of Fearn Ave and Wallcliffe Road.
Margaret River Fire and Rescue crew members cut the driver’s door from the vehicle to help free the woman, who was from Australind.
She was taken by ambulance to Margaret River Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Police closed Wallcliffe Rd between Bussell Hwy and Fearn Avenue, directing traffic around the scene for about an hour after accident, which happened about 10.30 am.
It is believed the Pathfinder left the Fearn Ave intersection and collided with a Nissan X-Trail travelling west along Wallcliffe Rd.
The occupants of the X-Trail, from the Perth suburb of Aubin Grove, were uninjured.
Margaret River Police officer-in-charge Sergeant Brett Cassidy said rescuers had difficulty moving the woman from the Nissan Pathfinder with the door stuck and the steering wheel pushed in.
He said the door was cut from the vehicle "as a precaution".
Sgt Cassidy appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Margaret River Police.
