The Eaton Boomers progressed to the preliminary final stage of the post season on Sunday when they defeated Busselton in harsh conditions.
After being battered with heavy rain for the majority of the day, the oval at Payne Park delivered a bruising game between the two in which the Boomers ran away with a comfortable win.
The general consensus going into the game was that the wet conditions would favour Busselton, but it didn’t deter the fluent movement of the Eaton Boomers.
Eaton forced a fast paced game in the early stages putting the pressure on Busselton with a goal to Brendan Page.
Michael Battaglia was finding plenty of football while Chris Atthowe was leading his team from the front.
But despite Eaton’s early control Busselton managed to bag the next two goals to Regan Mrsich and Nathan Bradbury.
Bradbury and Captain Daniel McGinlay were warming into the game for Busselton but three late goals gave the Boomers a 16 point lead at the first change.
Both sides played a back and forth game with multiple stoppages resulting in Eaton kicking two goals to zero in the second term.
The start of the second half saw the return of the pouring rain.
Busselton needed the first goal of the quarter and got it through some fancy work from Jordan Eastwell.
Unfortunately some undisciplined play from Busselton would see Battaglia kick truly after earning a reversed free kick to stretch the margin once more.
Busselton’s entries inside the forward 50 struggled in the wet and gave their forwards little opportunity as Eaton kicked away to a 29 point lead at the final change.
Busselton needed a huge quarter to keep their premiership aspirations alive and sadly it was not to be.
The fourth quarter was a stagnant contest in which Eaton’s Denhalm King was the only to score a major.
Eaton finished the game 41 point winners with the final score reading 10.11.71 to 4.6.30.
Eaton will now move on to face Bunbury in a preliminary final next Sunday.
