Singer Rob Mills has been called homophobic after posting an indecent photo on social media.
The picture, posted to Instagram after Saturday's AFL grand final, shows a Hawthorn Hawks figurine standing pressed against a bent-over Sydney Swans character.
Mills, who rose to fame on Australian Idol and plays Danny Zuko in a touring production of Grease, added the hashtags #hilarious and #criticssaidwhaaaaaat.
On Twitter he was reprimanded for joking about rape and giving homosexual sex negative associations.
"It equates receiving anal sex with being beaten or losing - that is homophobic," tweeted @erinrileyau.
Ms Riley, a Sydney resident who attended the grand final in Melbourne, said a group of 20 to 30 Hawthorn fans had been chanting, "Sydney take it up the a---, doo-dah, doo-dah".
She said security staff at the game ignored her complaints, telling her the chants were common and acceptable.
In April, the AFL, NRL, Australian Rugby Union and Cricket Australia made a joint commitment "to eliminate discrimination against gay, lesbian and bisexual players, coaches, administrators and fans".
Mills, who has since deleted the picture, has previously spoken out in support of gay marriage, calling it "a no-brainer".
Mills and the MCG have been contacted for comment.
Shame on you @RobMillsyMills for instagramming that vile, homophobic lego picture about the Swans v Hawthorn. I thought better of you. — Bec Barrett (@bec_barrett) September 28, 2014
@RobMillsyMills Yeah nah, Millsy. Not cool. You're supposed to be a friend of the rainbow community! — Katie Purvis (@katiemelb) September 27, 2014
