NOMINATIONS have closed for the Vasse by-election, with six candidates in the running for the seat of retiring Liberal MP Troy Buswell.
Three hopefuls announced their candidacies last week.
Wayne Barnett is standing for the Australian Christians. He previously ran for the Christian Demo cratic Party as a candidate in the 2008 WA state election in the seat of Collie/Preston and last year in the federal election in the seat of Forrest.
Mr Barnett said he was passionate about creating a moral society based on Biblical principles and opposed same-sex marriage, abortion and euthanasia.
The 58-year-old is married with three adult children and has lived most of his life in Busselton where he works in horticulture.
Independent nominee Teresa van Lieshout is a published social, theological, and political writer who contested the 2004 and 2013 federal elections, this year's senate re-election, last year's state election and the 2006 Victoria Park by-election as an independent.
She also stood at the 2005 WA election as a One Nation candidate and last year originally ran in the federal poll as a candidate for the Palmer United Party before policy differences became apparent.
Last week she launched a YouTube video wearing a bikini to draw attention to what she said were her more serious videos regarding social justice.
Another independent who last week announced he was a candidate is Peter Johnson. He is widely reported to be a life member and former state president of the Rebels Motorcycle Club, although the Mail was unable to reach him for comment.
These three candidates join Libby Mettam a journalist turned media adviser for MP Barry House, for the Liberal Party, Peter Gordon for the Nationals WA and Michael Baldock for the Greens, who also stood last year, in the October 18 by-election.
