It’s that time of year for the Margaret River Tennis International tournament which will see elite players head to the South West to compete for the number one position.
World number 169 Hiroko Kuwata from Japan will be headlining the Australian Pro Tour event which runs from October 25 through to November 1.
Tennis fans will be able to attend the free event to observe established international competitors take on home grown talent to compete for world ranking points and a large sum of prize money.
Local WA girls will also be a strong part of the competition as they battle for a spot in the main draw event.
“It’s fantastic to see such a strong field for the Margaret River tennis International,” Tournament director Loretta Hughes said.
“These events provide a chance for Australian players to play top quality professional tennis and allow the community to get close to the action free of charge.”
Hughes went on to praise the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River for their support, particularly encouraging the community to become involved in the event.
“These are the superstars of the future, and everyone has a chance to see them up close and personal, for free.” Margaret River Tennis Club president Chris Jarrot said.
Jarrot also said the local community and the club had a great appreciation for the event and was eager to see its return.
During the tournament, community activations and tennis programs will be held at local primary schools, as well as free coaching and cardio tennis lessons which will be made open to the public.
Qualifying rounds commence on October 26, with the main draw at 10am on October 27.
