A 1969 federal election, a gathering to celebrate it, two Liberals and the other attendees Labor, Don sure knows how to throw a party.
This is the essence of the new production from the Margaret River Theatre Group.
Don’s Party explores the rising tensions during federal election time.
With political discussions, innuendos increasing and hilarity ensuing, Don’s Party is recommended for those 18 and over for a night of adult fun.
Play director Campbell Madden said the play was set apart from other performances from the group by being their first real exploration into comedy for an older audience, plus the detail of the set was also worth a look.
“I love Australian theatre and the group makes sure we perform at least one Australian play a year,” said Madden.
“I studied David Williamson as a part of my final exam for Theatre Arts and finally had the opportunity with the group to perform it.”
Madden promised himself that he would one day perform or be a part of the production team for the play, finally getting a chance to see it come to fruition in his directorial debut.
A cast of eleven, Madden said he was wrapped with the cast, a mix of familiar and new faces making up the play, bringing new blood and seasoned performers into the mix.
Don’s Party opens on Friday, October 24, 25, 31 and November 1 from 8pm at the Margaret River Cultural Centre.
Tickets are available on the group’s website on www.mrtg.com.au.
