CLUCKING chickens have long been part of the Margaret River Agricultural Show's atmosphere and last weekend was no different with some fine feathered species to admire.
This year's Bird of Show title was claimed by Jennifer Bialosowski with a modern game bantam, birchin female.
Other successful contestants included perpetual trophy, rare breed winner Beryl Sutton with a male black leghorn; soft feather, heavy breed winner Sue Creek with a Rhode Island red; soft feather, light breed winner Beryl Sutton with a white leghorn, soft feather, light breed bantam winner Beryl Sutton with a male black leghorn; soft feather, heavy breed winner Noel Oxley with a Plymouth Rock female; modern game bantam winner Jennifer Bialosowski with a birchin female; and the junior (four to 14 years) winner Amelia Glass with a wyandotte male.
Amelia Glass was also presented with the junior encouragement and junior highly commended awards for her entry.
Held in the shed at Gloucester Park, the Poultry Show section was adorned with colourful bird artwork by the students of the Margaret River Montessori and Independent Schools and St Thomas More Catholic Primary.
The Two Oceans Poultry Club hosted the contest and members happily spoke to visitors about the different types of birds.
