MARGARET River Senior High School student India Stanley has knocked the socks off the judges and won a place on the 2015 12 day Premier’s ANZAC tour to Turkey.
After writing an essay on the links between the ANZAC legend to WA and West Australians today, India was placed into the finals with 57 other students.
Selected from more than 1000 year 8-11 students from across WA, India then participated in a variety of activities and a panel interview to be selected as one of the final 32 students.
These 32 students will be accompanied by five teachers from across WA to commemorate the 100 year anniversary.
Travelling through Turkey from April 16 to 27, students will study the Gallipoli Peninsula and Istanbul before attending the commemorative services on April 25.
Upon arrival home, India will act as a youth ambassador and share her experiences through out her school and community.
The school wishes to thank Martin Keen, the school’s ANZAC day coordinator, Patrick and Mishka Marzohl for helping India with interview techniques, Jason Nelson, India’s Society and Environment teacher and English teacher Heather Sharpe for their support of India throughout the process.
