The Margaret River Swim Squad Club has gone from strength to strength in the latter half of 2014.
In August four of the club’s swimmers competed at the Lesmurdie Legends Swim Meet, coming home with 12 medals and the promise of three of their teams competing in the state qualifying times.
Club swimmer Lucinda Jones went on to swim in two events at the 2014 SWA Junior Short Course Championships while Ester Pedrick, swam in five events at the 2014 SWA state open and age short course championships.
Ms Pedrick came home with a bronze medal in the 50m Butterfly, with both girls achieving personal best times in the events held at Challenge Stadium.
November 2 saw nine club swimmers attend the Bunbury Open Carnival which acted as the club’s first state swim meet.
For most, it was their first time at an event of this calibre, with Ms Pedrick and Ms Jones once again shining at the meet.
In particular the 12 and under 200 metre relay team put on a stunning performance, winning a bronze medal.
From the club’s performance, they were approached by Georgiana Malloy Anglican School Swim Club with an offer to have one of their coaches work with the club’s swimmers each week.
The Margaret River squad has 23 consistent swimmers and two qualified swim coaches, Janine Pedrick and Keeley Beddow, with all swimmers training two to three times a week.
The Club is currently researching funding to support the purchase of portable dive blocks for use at the Recreation Centre Pool to better prepare the swimmers for future competition.
