THE number of people registered for this month's Margaret River Fun Run is looking a tad slim.
However, with the event just weeks away, organisers from the Rotary Club of Margaret River are far from worried.
In fact, they believe this will be the biggest Fun Run the town has seen so far.
Event director Neil Fox said in previous years there had always been a last-minute influx of registrations and sure enough, the registrations were starting to race in.
"I'd be delighted to see 700 people registered," Mr Fox said last week.
"At the moment there are 200.
"Now is the time we usually put the call out for people to register, to make sure they don't forget," he said.
The number of people training through the Mar garet River Recre a tion Centre's Fun Run program and the show of community support has fuelled Mr Fox's belief people are eager to take part in the November 30 event.
The run is the annual fundraising event of Rotary to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
As a major sponsor, the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River hopes to see a record number of locals get on board.
Shire president Mike Smart believes the Fun Run is an iconic event for the community.
"It's a way to get active and be part of a social event," he said.
"We'd love to see everyone get involved bring the family and join in the four kilometre walk or enjoy the stunning scenery along the 10km course."
The run will finish at Surfers Point and be followed by a festival at Riflebutts Park, featuring free bouncy castles, waterslides, face painting and other entertainment.
The Wallcliffe Bush Fire Brigade and the State Emergency Services will show off their latest equipment and discuss fire planning. Refreshments, coffee vans and several food stalls are all lined up.
