IT was every hungry person for themselves at the Margaret River Gourmet Escape’s Gourmet Village on Saturday.
Masses of people flocked to the festival hub at Leeuwin Estate winery and enjoyed the food so much that some of the 16 restaurant stalls sold out before 1.30pm.
Some stallholders said they nearly sold more dishes in one day than they had sold the whole Gourmet Village weekend last year.
Dishes included a pulled pork and kimchee slider by Vasse Felix, sashimi tuna with ponza dressing by Voyager Estate, and barbecued lime-salt tiger prawns with aioli by Cowaramp Food, to name a few.
People also enjoyed sampling produce, wine, beer, cider and coffee.
Charismatic chefs kept the crowd entertained at the Siemen’s Chef Theatre, with acts including Heston Blumenthal, Rick Stein, Massimo Bottura and Frank Camorra. Matt Preston and Poh Ling Yeow also teamed up for a cooking demonstration, making a great sight for any fans of Channel Ten’s Masterchef.
The weather improved as the day went on, though the flies were unfortunately out in full force throughout the event.
