ABC will close its Wagin centre in regional Western Australia and Perth viewers will lose their Friday night state-based program for a national edition as part of $254 million of federal government cuts and changes to the public broadcaster.
Stateline will be dropped and replaced with the national edition of 7.30 and the broadcaster's sport involvement will also be scaled back.
Adelaide's television production studio and five regional centres, including Wagin, will be shut.
In a statement from ABC managing director Mark Scott posted on its website on Monday morning more than 400 people, or nearly 10 per cent of the ongoing workforce, would be made redundant.
Mr Scott described the cuts and changes as a "whole-of-ABC response to our funding issues and our audience strategy".
"Change is never easy for an institution that has so many stakeholders with a passionate interest in its work. But change is now a media industry constant and the one guarantee I can offer you is that change will remain a reality for the ABC. "
In addition to $120 million cut to the ABC in the May 2014 budget, another $207 million will be cut from July 2015 over four years.
"Because the cuts are back-end loaded, in the latter years the accumulated impact of the ABC is over 8 per cent a year," he said.
The closures and changes include:
Closing the Adelaide television production studio and "wind down" remaining television production in smaller states.
Outside broadcast vans will be rationalised
Sports involvement scaled back
Regional centres in Wagin, Morwell, Gladstone, Port Augusta and Nowra will close
Management will amount to more than 10 per cent of the redundancies.
