MARGARET River Cultural Centre is inviting the community to a Refugee Education Sundowner.
The event was created by Amnesty Margaret River together with the Uniting Church Margaret River and Tig-le House Buddhist group
Inspired by the want to educate others of people’s hopes to pursue asylum in Australia via Indonesia, the groups have collaborated to raise funds and awareness towards the asylum seekers cause.
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is a 50 minute documentary by Jessica Taylor will open the event, using candid interviews and hidden camera footage to reveal the experiences of individuals trying to find their way to Australian shores.
A discussion will follow with Dr Caroline Fleay from Curtin University’s Department of Humanities leading a Q and A session.
Local jazz funk due Blue Child will be busking at the event to show their support and raise funds.
The film will be shown on Saturday, November 29 from 4.30pm.
Entry is a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going towards assisting refugees with legal services.
