A violent Facebook page featuring all-in brawls at Perth schools and other areas has re-emerged after being taken down last week due to community outrage.
"We're back!!!" is how the Perth Fights page announced its return, featuring fresh, undated video of a fight between students at Clarkson Community High School in the city's northern suburbs.
The page was taken down last week after Facebook initially resisted calls from parents to remove it.
"The first one popped up and people complained," a Perth primary school teacher, who lodged a complaint with Facebook but did not wish to be named, told Fairfax Media last week.
"Facebook were replying that it didn't violate community standards."
The page was eventually taken down, but a copycat site, Perth Fights 2.0, soon sprung up.
That page was removed and then the original Perth Fights page - complete with fight videos dating back to September - reappeared late Tuesday.
A number of related pages, North Side of The River Fights, and Perth Scraps, also went up on Facebook overnight Wednesday.
The pages feature video of violent brawls predominantly between high school students, but also other fights with adults and teenagers around the city.
The most recent Clarkson High School footage features two boys fighting at or near the school, surrounded and egged on by other students.
The boys punch and kick each until the fight is broken up by onlookers.
While most replies to the page ridiculed the quality of the fight, one woman warned of the dangers.
"You do understand that 1 punch can kill?" Katee Rb wrote.
"You idiots, yes some one may piss you off and say nasty things about you.
"Move on & get over it!! Other wise [you'll] end up in prison for life!!
"Think before you do this sort of childish crap!! That's no way to handle something!!"
Former WA policeman turned cyber safety crusader Paul Litherland told Fairfax Media on Wednesday there was nothing to prevent such pages being created.
"It's almost impossible to stop them being created, and it's usually between a couple of days or even weeks before its seen by a physical person at Facebook," he said.
Unlike nudity or sexual content, which is automatically flagged by Facebook moderating software, violent pages are not removed unless there are specific complaints.
"With fighting videos, there's nothing within that software or within those guidelines that specifically breaches those policies, which is why a lot of these videos are getting on," Mr Litherland said.
He added that US-based Facebook was a strong proponent of free speech and that war, conflict and organised fighting videos- such as boxing and UFC - were common.
Mr Litherland said Facebook moderators might not always discriminate between such events and school-yard fights, especially if it appeared no-one was seriously hurt.
The Perth primary school teacher last week speculated digital fight clubs would continue to multiply around Perth.
"I don't know if they'll start Perth Fights 3.0," she said, adding she was concerned about increasing crime and aggression in her area.
"Some of those kids [in the video] probably went to our local primary school," she said.
"The scary part is they are becoming desensitised to violence.
"There is a lot of violence going on in the area. Clarkson and Kinross are becoming quite rough."
Kinross College principal Lloyd Page sent a letter to parents last week stating an altercation - which still features on the Perth Fights page - had occurred on school grounds on August 14.
"While we at Kinross College strongly object to students dealing with differences in a physical way, the issue was handled appropriately at the time and students received sanctions that were supported by their parents," Mr Page said.
"The students have since undergone counselling and a restoration of their relationship."
Mr Page said at the time he was troubled by the video being on Facebook.
"Of the greatest concern to me is the inappropriate manner in which a number of students are using technologies and social media," he said.
Department of Education director-general Sharyn O'Neill said she "backed schools 100 percent to take firm action against any student either taking part in fights or uploading them to social media."
"That includes calling police, suspending students and, for those who persistently misbehave, seeking alternative support through behaviour centres or similar programs," Ms O'Neill said.
