Retired West Coast Eagles footballer Daniel Kerr has made a brief appearance in Perth Magistrates Court and his bail conditions changed so he can attend two weddings.
Kerr, 31, was charged with two counts of endangering the life, health or safety of a person after he allegedly made threats to harm two people and lit a fire inside a Glendalough property on Tuesday, November 11.
Flanked by his lawyer John Prior and mother Roxanne, Kerr arrived at court on Wednesday to a waiting media throng.
Dressed sharply in a dark suit and white shirt, the picture was a world away from his court appearance two weeks ago when he appeared drawn and drained wearing a faded black Nike hoodie, black shorts and socks but no shoes.
Kerr was met in the courthouse lobby by a court security officer who gave him a reassuring, supportive pat on the back as the former star waited in line for the security screening.
He was not required to enter a plea to the charges, but his lawyer sought changes to his bail conditions regarding his 7pm to 7am curfew so Kerr could attend two weddings.
Chief Magistrate Stephen Heath granted temporary curfew changes so the former football star can attend the weddings – one in Midland on December 10 and the wedding of his cousin in Dunsborough on January 17, in which he will be in the bridal party.
Kerr spent four nights in Hakea Prison after failing to stump up $5000 surety.
At the time, there was speculation his parents were exercising "tough love" by not offering the sum, but other reports said Kerr had become reclusive and was not taking visitors or phone calls on his initial days on remand.
In an interview with Channel 7 this week, Kerr said his four days in Hakea was a "wake-up call".
"It did teach me a lesson," he said. "I'm happy I was kept in there as long as I was."
"It gave me time to straighten up and really reflect on things and I hope I don't go back."
Kerr's incarceration came after claims the former AFL star was "acting bizarrely" and "going off" when he allegedly made threats to harm two people and lit a fire inside a Glendalough property on November 11.
What prompted the outburst has not been confirmed.
On November 12, Kerr was granted $5000 bail under strict conditions, including a $5000 surety and curfew, requiring him to be at his Wembley home, owned by his former wife Natasha Pozo, between 7pm and 7am daily.
Under the bail conditions, he is not allowed to contact the two complainants or to be within 100 metres of two properties, one on North Beach Road, North Beach and another on Pollard Street, Glendalough.
On Sunday, Kerr's father, Roger, was reportedly stabbed in the chest during a roadside argument with strangers in Bateman on his way home from Crown Casino.
He was treated in Royal Perth Hospital for the wound, but has not lodged a complaint with police over the incident.
Kerr made his debut with the Eagles in 2001 - recruited from WAFL club East Fremantle - and was part of the 2006 premiership team before he retired from football at the end of the 2013 season, after a succession of injuries.
Kerr was twice runner-up in the Brownlow Medal and was an All-Australian in 2007 but his career was not without controversy.
In September 2002, he was involved in a brawl with teammate Ben Cousins at Club Bayview during end-of-season celebrations, which left Cousins with a broken arm after a fall down some stairs.
In January this year, it was reported that Kerr had split with his wife of three years Natasha Pozo. The couple has two daughters together, two-year-old Ruby June and Lola Violet, aged three.
Kerr will next appear in court on January 19.
