IN its first initiative since it was established, the Brookfield Connect community group invited people to help with a forest clean-up last month.
The focus was on a forest section within Brookfield Estate and the combined efforts of the clean-up crew removed about eight bags of rubbish.
Brookfield Connect president Clinton Truman said the majority of waste was light materials such as paper and plastic blown into the forest from building sites, rather than blatant littering. "Brookfield is a great place to live, and maintaining our environment is something we as a community want to take charge of," he said.
Fellow group member Niomi O'Hara said the event was a lovely chance to socialise.
"We had a sausage sizzle, and Margaret Ruello gave spontaneous tours of her garden," she said.
The group hopes to make the forest clean-up an annual occasion.
