CELEBRATE with west coast artist Bec Juniper as she opens her new exhibition Personal Cult of the Land on January 17.
The exhibition intends to explore a sense of place using the flora, geology and colours of the Australian landscape.
“My work looks at the landscape from a bird’s eye view which may be underfoot or from a great height” says Juniper.
Juniper works in many layers often using materials found from an area she has explored, letting the artwork unfold and create itself rather than set out with a specific plan.
These paintings could be seen as microscopic, or an aerial view, both giving off a feeling of floating timelessness and creating the mood of isolation in that moment.
“I’m not trying to capture a snapshot of a place, but rather a feeling of being there, or a memory,” Juniper said.
The event will be opened by department of Culture and Arts director general Duncan Ord between 6 and 8pm at Jahroc Gallery.
RSVP is required for the opening night by calling 97587200 or info@jahroc.com.au.
