In an exciting finale to Margaret River Primary School’s swimming season, Earth faction scored exactly the same number of points as they did last year, winning the faction shield at the 2014 Middle Cell Swimming Carnival with 358 points.
Held at the Aquatic Centre on December 12, Earth won fairly comfortably by 33 points from Forest on 325, with Ocean on 310 points and Sun rounding things out with 285 points.
Very dominant again in the Year 5 girls division again were Tara Anderson from Forest and Ruby Pedrick from Earth, who reversed their individual titles from last year.
In a close finish this year Ruby was Year 5 Girls champion with Tara, the runner-up.
Austin ‘Aussie’ Dempsey from Forest swam very consistently all day to take out the Year 5 Boys Championship from Felix Rice of Ocean.
Prominent among the Year 4 swimmers was boys’ champion George Wolsley, a new “recruit” welcomed by Earth, whilst Ava Robins from Forest and Leona Humphreys from Sun put in very determined efforts for their factions respectively.
MRPS deputy principal Campbell Madden said he was impressed by the skillful swimming displayed by all factions and the exciting atmosphere in the faction bays.
He thanked all teachers involved with preparing the students and the parents for their encouragement of their children and their assistance with running the carnival.
