WHY did the chicken cross the road?
No one in Margaret River knows, but it sure seemed to be in a hurry this week.
Several people reported seeing a pair of brown hens running loose on Wilmott Avenue on Wednesday.
They visited the post office as well as the new Drift café.
“They're literal traffic stoppers with cars waiting patiently while they crossed the road,” one resident Gaye McQueen reported on social media with a photo.
Other people joined in the documenting of the hens’ adventure, posting photos of where they had seen the chooks.
It was alleged their owner had moved out of a house from the nearby Townview Terrace and left them behind.
“They have been left by their owner,” local resident Kym Beesley said.
“I am sure they would appreciate a loving home if someone wants them.”
Pia Seidelin was determined to offer that loving home, however she found the chickens had disappeared by Thursday morning.
“I went into town to pick up these two and bring them home. They weren’t around. Murphy’s Law, huh,” Ms Seidelin joked.
She asked the Margaret River Corner Bar and community members to notify her if the chickens were sighted again.
