GRALYN Estate has taken out the top spot for the second year running for best fortified or sweet wine.
At the Qantas Western Australian Wine Awards, Gralyn’s Artizan Rare Muscat shone once again, taking first place in their category.
The wine has received four gold medals and five trophies, including the Best Wine on Show at the Boutique Wine Awards in Sydney last year.
Gralyn Estate owner Graham Hutton said it was an amazing Muscat, one that had been aged in old oak barrels for 20 years.
“It really is a wine for a very special occasion,” Mr Hutton said.
Gralyn Estate started in 1978 with proprietors Merilyn and Graham Hutton creating 30 gallons of their first vintage port.
The family owned and operated Estate in the heart of the wine region has extended its range since then.
“Our passion for fortified wines has continued to grow over the years,” Mr Hutton said.
The label on the award winning drop also features original artwork by Ms Hutton.
“The original ‘Poppies Galore’, was one of my most popular art works, so it seemed fitting to use it on the label of such a hand crafted wine.
“The painting still hangs on the wall in our cellar door,” Ms Hutton said.
Ms Hutton said the estate was very excited for the release of their new website as well.
“It’s been seven months hard work, planning, designing and writing every word, but well worth the effort,” she said.
