A driver who accelerated away from police and sped through a roadworks site has had his car impounded.
Just before 10:30pm on Saturday, Newman police patrolling along Great Northern Highway detected a silver Holden Commodore utility driving above the 110km/h speed limit.
Police activated their emergency lights and sirens but the vehicle continued to accelerate away, speeding through a section of the highway under repair near Marble Bar Road at well in excess of the 60km/h speed limit set for the road works.
Nobody was working at this portion of the road at the time.
The vehicle was intercepted at the corner of Newman Drive and Great Northern Highway and has been impounded for 28 days.
The driver, a 22-year-old Newman man, will be summonsed for reckless driving and is due to appear in the Newman Court on Tuesday March 17.
