VAMPIRES, fairies and a bloody mess.
The newest offering from Western Australian writer Nina Smith has all the fantasy elements to hook an audience from the word ghoul.
Smith will be discussing her dark, comic fantasy series Shadow at the Margaret River Regional Library on February 5.
The series revolves around Shadow, a bubble world located just out of human sight.
"It is the home of the Bloody Fairies, who like shiny things and war; and it is being overrun by a vampire horde on the hunt for territory and a reliable blood source," Smith said.
The first book in the series, Bloody Fairies, lures the reader in with the tale of a young fairy who hooks up with the all-powerful muse king in a bid to find an ancient weapon that will turn back the vampires and save her tribe from annihilation.
"She soon discovers the muse king is every bit as dodgy as her mum said he would be and ancient weapons can be a bit of a problem in the wrong hands," Smith said.
The second book in the series will develop this concept, focusing on madness, loyalty, amnesia and a pint-sized prophet.
"I'll be talking about both of these books, about what it takes to create a fantasy world and also about the world of indie publishing," Smith said.
"This event is free, so please come and join me for a bit of fun, sparkle and interesting conversation."
Signed books will be available on the day with the second book in the series due for release soon.Smith will speak from 6-7.30pm at the Margaret River Regional Library.
