THE Peel Thunderbirds will hold a have-a-go day on February 15 for those females wanting to give football a go.
The Thunderbirds are in search of players, aged 17 and over, to line-up in their League and Reserves teams with no experienced required.
Thunderbirds player Jess Fenton said football was definitely something girls should try.
“I’ve been playing footy for 10 years; it’s a very skilful game and lets you get your aggression out,” she said.
“You also make heaps of friends and is good fun.”
Georgia Perry, who played her first year with the Thunderbirds, said had a great time playing football.
“I saw my brother playing and wanted to give it ago,” she said.
“It’s good for fitness and is lots of fun.”
Entering her third season at the Thunderbirds, Tayla Marshall said she liked football from the first time she started playing.
“It’s better than soccer,” she said.
The have-a-go day will be held at Rushton Park North from 12.30pm where participants can meet the players and coaches including three-time under 18s representative Emma Swanson.
Peel Thunderbirds president Ann Fenton thanked H&N Perry for a $10,000 donation which will allow the club to design and purchase new jumpers.
The club is run solely by volunteers and is always in need of sponsors.
H&N Perry will also cover the ground fees after the Thunderbirds were successful in moving one of their two weekly trainings sessions from Golden Bay to Rushton Park.
