THE Margaret River pre-season carnival was hailed a “huge successs” with 18 mens teams and 10 women teams taking to the field on February 20 and 21.
Football Margaret River men’s side made it to the grand final against Gwelup but lost in a penalty shoot out.
Coach Paul Brown was not deterred by the loss saying the standard of football played was excellent.
“The carnival has been running for 21 years and this was our second grand final,” he said.
Subiaco took out the honours for the women’s competition against Hay Park.
Margaret River’s ladies team made it to the semi-final but lost to Subiaco.
“The players played great soccer throughout the weekend,” Brown said.
Margaret River now looks forward to hosting the round one FFA Cup game where Perth Cougars take on Football Margaret River.
Brown said this was a great opportunity for the players to step up in the sport.
