THE Augusta Margaret River State Emergency Service unit is on the lookout for literal man power.
With the ladies in the unit currently dominating the gender ratio, the unit is seeking the involvement of more male volunteers to even up the odds.
Volunteers would be utilised in a number of life changing situations, with the unit’s recent deployment to the Northcliffe fires being the most recent example.
According to SES local manager Lisa Hoskin, the volunteer group clocked over 350 hours in nine days during their deployment in Northcliffe.
Their assistance involved water bomber refilling, logistical support and managerial support.
Ms Hoskin said the community vibe was amazing and the appreciation for their efforts made the long hours of work worth it.
With a unique age demographic with volunteers from 19 to 75 years of age, there’s a place for everyone within the unit.
If any interested men needed something extra to sweeten the idea, a new four wheel drive buggy was just delivered to their headquarters.
The unit was the first in the state to receive the all terrain utility vehicle, with Ms Hoskin saying it has already proven its worth, with access to the beach and forest being required within the first week of its arrival.
“It’s not just stylish, it’s useful,” she laughed.
For more information about the unit call 9758 9700 or come along to the training night every Monday from 7pm at SES headquarters.
