A NUMBER of visitors to the Margaret River region will be losing some weight off the top of their head for a very worthy cause next week.
The current residents at the Margaret River Backpackers will be taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave at a hostel BBQ next Friday night.
With the option to cut or colour their hair, hostel manager Paul Harris said they had more than 12 participants signed up, an impressive feat considering the hostel can only host 52 visitors at a time.
It is Mr Harris’ first year organising the event in the venue, yet he has been participating in the annual fundraising campaign for the Leukaemia Foundation for more than five years.
Mr Harris said it all started with a bet to do with a greyhound. After purchasing one with friends, if it proved successful within the first year, they decided they would all shave their heads and donate the funds to charity.
Successful it was and Mr Harris has never looked back.
“It is an exceptionally important charity,” Mr Harris said.
He said all the backpackers were getting buzzed about participating in and witnessing the event.
With $500 as their goal, they are well on their way, however Mr Harris said due to the short amount of work available because of the season, the hostel residents were unable to give as much as they would like to.
