The City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club started its centenary year by winning the recent State Life Saving WA Country Club Championships for the 20th year in a row with a lead of more than 670 points.
Points were accumulated across 132 medal events and the club was well represented in the top fields, especially the water events.
Held on the March long weekend, 13 country clubs made up more than 350 competitors who participated in two days of events and competition at Mulluloo Beach.
Clubs traveled from as far afield as Esperance-Goldfields, Albany and Denmark in the south to Dongara-Denison and Geraldton in the north.
Bunbury members dominated in the open men’s and women’s events, Under 19, Under 17 and the Under 14 group events.
The club scored 1053 points overall with Secret Harbour coming second on 379 points.
The club took 152 medals from 132 medal events and sent 78 competitors to the championship.
On the same weekend, the over 30s from across the state competed in the Masters State Championships.
Eight City of Bunbury Masters competitors raced across all surf and beach disciplines resulting in each competitor winning a medal.
Medalists progress to the Surf Life Saving State Championships held from March 21 to 22 at Scarborough Beach.
