WITH all the prizes on offer at the 2015 Wagin Woolorama, the Wagin Argus was humbled to be on the receiving end.
The Argus was recognised for its 110 year history and its efforts to provide the community with important local stories.
The award coincided with the launch of a new book The Galloping Ground Scout by Wagin authors Jim West and Lloyd Nelson at the historical village on Friday.
The book focuses on local interest in the World War I Gallipoli campaign and was compiled with the assistance of old Argus articles.
In presenting the award to current Wagin Argus journalist Blayde Grzelka, co-author Jim West said the Argus was a great paper with a long and distinguished history.
“This award is in recognition of 110 years of reporting by the past and present proprietors of this iconic paper, of the triumphs and tragedies of the district family life and of news of national and local importance,” he said.
“We are grateful for the maintenance of past Argus copies which provide a rich source to writers and researchers of the district’s past history.
“In presenting this award we hope to express the district’s hope and expectation that providence will continue to smile on the good ship Wagin Argus and all those who sail in her.”
The event also featured a roll call of all past and current Wagin Argus employees.
