IT is fair to say that a desire to test the limits drives Margaret River triathlete Jarrad Bolton.
Born in Perth but raised in Margaret River for as long as he can remember he entered the sport four years ago as a way to lose weight.
But he soon caught the bug.
Now, the young athlete has completed four half ironmans and finished his first full one in Busselton in December.
“To be honest I don’t know how I finished the full one but I definitely enjoyed it,” he said.
“I work up north and train when I’m home – I’m lucky my employer give me the hours to do it.”
Bolton loves a challenge and recently finished a half ironman carrying an injury.
Not content with just finishing the race, Bolton managed it in such a quick time that he has qualified to compete in Austria later this year.
“I’m pretty nervous about the race and my goal is not to come last,” he said.
“It should end up being a nice trip with my partner and parents both coming to support me.”
“I’m just looking forward to the whole experience and having the chance to compete against 80 to 100 of the world’s best athletes in my age division.”
Fans of the sport will also be given the opportunity to see Bolton compete in the Busselton half marathon in May.
“I enjoy racing in Busselton and I also try to target one race outside of WA each year,” he said.
While Bolton is hard at work training with his coaches from GK Endurance to be ready for the overseas event, he is hoping to get his home town behind him.
