OVERWHELMING local support for Bunbury shark attack survivor Sean Pollard has seen more than $100,000 raised to help him on his new journey.
An auction held on Friday night saw a huge amount of valuable items donated and about $50,000 raised for the 24-year-old who lost both his hands in the attack off the Esperance coast last year.
This was followed by a Concert for Polly at Hands Oval on Saturday night, featuring an impressive line-up including band Third Time Round and DJ Boston Switch.
About 1000 people came through the gates and a team of volunteers from the South Bunbury Football Club made sure the night ran smoothly.
South Bunbury Football Club president Jeff Hayres and local business owner and artist Jordan Gianfrancesco led the charge to give the community an avenue to help out.
The money raised over the weekend will go towards buying Mr Pollard prosthetic arms.
Mr Gianfrancesco said Mr Pollard would most likely have to go outside of Australia for the prosthetics and it would be an expensive purchase coupled with extensive therapy.
“It’s about getting Sean set up and established, life goes on and he has to adjust to his new life,” he said.
“He was so blown away by the support of the community, he is such a humble guy and couldn’t believe the generosity and that so many people are right behind him.”
The event was made possible by major sponsors Dale Alcock Homes, Maker and Co, Hot FM and Totally Sound.
