Two Armadale schools will receive $9.4 million to better prepare students for university and the workplace.
Premier Colin Barnett and Education Minister Peter Collier made the announcement at Cecil Andrews Senior High School in Seville Grove, near Armadale on Monday.
Along with Armadale Senior High School, both schools will invest the funds into new buildings and infrastructure for the beginning of the 2017 school year.
Armadale will install a new commercial kitchen with further upgrades to the cafeteria, food and textiles facilities. There would be new programs in hospitality and allied health services.
Cecil Andrews SHS will launch a new academic extension program including a new building for laboratories and a lecture theatre to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Mr Collier said the new focus on specialist schooling was the result of a community survey.
"As the schools do not have a local intake area, parents can apply to enrol their children at the school that best suits their aspirations," he said.
The announcement was made during one of the scheduled cabinet meetings outside Perth.
During the course of the day the Premier and ministers met with first homebuyers, opened buildings - including the Gosnells Community Men's Shed - and attended a community reception.
The WA government established its Regional Cabinet program to ensure communities outside the capital had the opportunity to participate in discussions on local issues with the premier and ministers.
The program is designed to reach a number of regional locations each year. Each visit comprises a formal cabinet meeting and can include formal and informal community consultations, often tied in with major announcements affecting the individual region or the wider State.
