THE Augusta Spinners and Weavers will be telling more than just a yarn this Easter Weekend when they host their annual exhibition and sale of work at the Centennial Hall.
The exhibition has been running for more than forty years, displaying the impressive craftsmanship of the club members.
To add an element of their history to the mix, a 150-year-old Scandinavian spinning wheel will be on display with demonstrations on how to spin featured throughout the day.
The exhibition does not have a theme as the group sought to allow freedom of expression in all the work.
“It’s originally minded,” Life member May Brandli said.
“It’s a personal creation by each member.”
For club president Mary Palmer she found her calling with the group as a means to relax from a stressful job.
A member of the club said she should learn to spin and to go buy herself a wheel.
Ms Palmer recalled the member throwing a particularly difficult piece of wool her way and said if she could spin that, she could spin anything.
Ms Palmer said hand spinning itself is very therapeutic.
The exhibition will consist of a variety of hand made items, commercial yarns, crochet, knitting, felt work, weaving and even small items such as teddy bears, beanies and brooches.
Why should you come along?
“We do a great morning and afternoon tea,” Ms Palmer laughed.
“Our work is unique; there are not many hand spinners left and only one weaver in the group.”
The exhibition and sale will run from 9am-5pm on Saturday.
Admission is $5 and includes morning or afternoon tea.
For those who miss out, the club will also be present at the town markets on Sunday.
