MARGARET River Primary School Year 6 classes have held their annual Go-Kart building and race days.
The events that have run through the school for the past 16 years were attended by an enthusiastic big group of spectators comprised of students, parents and teaching staff.
Construction of the karts took place in quite warm conditions on the school oval, with willing parents assisting groups of students to build their karts from their group designed plans.
MRPS Principal Sinan Kerimofski said once again he was thrilled with the response to the event by school community members.
He said an estimated 70 parents and friends worked tirelessly with some 120 students to produce amazing, creative machines that looked very professional.
Year 6 teacher Mark Harrison explained the designing and building of the Go-Karts was part of an Energy Inquiry unit students studied.
He said it allowed teams of students to cooperatively work together to design and construct their karts using recycled materials thereby providing a sustainable means of transport.
Besides the relatively normal surfboard themed karts, he said this year one group designed a refrigerator-themed kart.
After a series of races on the school oval to see which were the fastest, strongest, and most durable and energy efficient designs, The Baa Baa Boys came out victorious.
Best presented Go-Kart and group went to The Rainbow Warriors.
