The giant neon elephant sign, once one of the most recognisable landmarks in Fremantle, hasn't flickered for more than eight years.
And the bright pink paint on the Jumbo Video signage is peeling and crumbling.
Like several local video stores "Jumbo" - as the locals know it by - has died a slow and painful death.
After more than 30 years, the store, huddled in a corner among shops at Bicton Central Shopping Centre, is closing its doors.
With the explosion of digital downloads, one would expect mega video rental stores to disappear from the landscape. But when Jumbo shuts shop early next month, a small slice of retail nostalgia will be removed from the suburbs.
Jumbo Video manager Alison Williams said downloads eventually killed the store.
"We've had our eyes open for a while and realised there was not much future in the industry," she said.
"I think it's because of downloads but there is so much competition now.
"But Jumbo is more than a video store - it's a little piece of magic."
Ms Williams said she would never pulverise customers with movie suggestions but relished in the ennui - the monotony of watching film-lovers flick through dozens and dozens of films.
And she has no venom towards customers who vanished over the years to embrace streaming sites online.
In fact, Ms Williams says she will miss the people the most.
"It's a place where people come to say hello," she said.
"The people I've told about the closure are pretty sad. It's been pretty awful – it's been pretty upsetting."
Ms Williams said that when she took over the running of Jumbo Video nine years ago, the southern suburbs were littered with DVD stores.
"I've seen them close down in Fremantle, Myaree and Melville," she said.
"I think Starland is the only one left."
Fairfax Media couldn't resist asking the self-confessed movie geek what her favourite flick was among the 50,000-plus films in the store.
"Xanadu," she laughed. "Hey, it has Olivia Newton-John on roller skates, what else is there to say?"
Starland Video owner James McKibbon said it felt odd to be one of the "last" video stores still standing.
He said the Beaconsfield store had managed to stay afloat because it began to focus on art house and foreign-language flicks that are hard to get online.
"We have a tight-knit community around here that love their films," he said.
"And we love our films. It makes me sad to think we are now one of the last ones.
"It feels like the last white rhino running around in Africa."
