Following the dawn service and Gunfire Breakfast thousands of people lined the streets of Perth's CBD for the Anzac Day Parade.
The March was led by a detachment of WA Mounted Police followed by units from the navy, army and Air Force along with civilian agencies including firefighters and ambulance personnel.
Crowds clapped and cheered as each different group marched past on their way to a commemorative service in The Supreme Court Gardens.
Among the most popular contingents were those veterans who were driven through the streets in old military jeeps, ambulances and trucks.
Vietnam veteran Les Anderson, from Girrawheen, said everyone taking part in the parade could feel that the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli and World War One made this year's parade feel even more special than usual.
"It's quite possible we wouldn't be here today if the world war Anzac's hadn't gone to war to protect our values back in 1914," he said.
World War Two veteran Raymond Deetlefs said he was amazed at the size of the crowd which lined St George's Terrace and Barrack Street.
The former aircraft engineer who serviced fighter planes in North Africa said: "There seemed to be more lines of people, young and old, watching today than I remember from past parades.
"It's really great to see all the families with children coming down to pay tribute to veterans."
The parade finished in The Supreme Court Gardens where a massive crowd gathered for a service of remembrance.
WA President of the Returned Services League told the crowd that the World War One Anzacs had given Australia a code of honour to live by.
"They showed us courage, sacrifice, love of country, mateship and compassion. The spirit of the Anzacs and the spirit of Australia are one and the same," he said.
The main address was given by 24-year-old Afghanistan veteran David Singer who was given a standing ovation by those attending the service.
He talked about the missions and actions he and his battalion had fought trying to disrupt the Taliban. They were attacked by Taliban fighters with guns, bombs, rockets and grenades.
Despite the dangers, David Singer said he felt safe in Afghanistan because he was with his mates.
"I knew my mates were watching my back. I knew that if something went wrong and I found myself lying on my back that nothing in the world would stop them from getting to my side," he said.
For him, that confirmed the Anzac spirit was alive and well.
WA Governor Kerry Sanderson asked the crowd to remember the Aboriginal soldiers who served with the Anzacs but who were not given recognition for it at the time. She also said we should remember the nurses who served on the front line and the families left behind.
The Governor said Australia should also remember the struggle many conflict survivors faced living with their memories of war.
"My own Grandfather never spokes to us of his experiences as a gunner in 1917," she said.
At the conclusion of the service 1023 red balloons were released into the air to commemorate the 1023 West Australians who died in Gallipoli.
