Two Margaret River sisters are set to bring the heat to 16,000 foodies when they take part in the Taste of Perth Festival on May 15.
Kate and Georgia Ryan from Black Kite Beverage Co have added a chipotle-infused concoction to their range of alcoholic beverages, bottled in Margaret River, which they believe will be a hit at the festival.
They have already made a splash in the market with their alcoholic ginger beer Zenzero and lemony Citro Bitter but wanted to add something new for the winter market.
"We have the chipotle for flavour and the birds eye adds the heat," Georgia said.
"There's also a sweetness behind it coming through."After tasting the prototype it is easy to see the girls know how to create their flavours.
A powerful chilly hit provides a lasting heat, perfect for winter evening, and eventually melts away to a sweetness that is not expected, but certainly welcome. The idea to create alcoholic drinks started when they were giving out tasters for Margaret River Beverages, which their father owns.
"The amount of people who said, 'You should add booze to this,' was incredible," Kate said.
"We picked the two biggest sellers and ran with it."At last the South West Craft Beer Festival in February they were flooded with people wanting to sample their drinks as word got out.
"The tap was just on constantly and didn't go off the whole time," Georgia said.
"We love it when people tell us they love our drinks."By taking part in Taste of Perth the girls will join big names in the hospitality trade such as Print Hall, Lalla Rookh, Bib & Tucker, Bistro Guillaume, Nobu, Silks and El Publico.
"We see ourselves as on the premium end of the market and that's what Taste of Perth is all about," Kate said."It's a fun and young event with the best of what's on offer.
"It doesn't feel like work."
Taste of Perth's Event Director Simon Wilson said, "Taste of Perth 2015 is an event not to be missed, particularly for foodies, restaurant-lovers, chef-enthusiasts and those looking for a great day out with friends and family.
"The restaurants include some of Perth's best restaurants that prove the hardest to get into and continually receive praise - but Taste has them lined up and ready to serve with no reservations needed."
