The smell and sight of smoke is making its way through Barrett Road after the commencement of prescribed burns in the area from 1pm today, April 28.
The north-east corner of Barrett Street Reserve is being targeted for safety purposes
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services have prescribed the burn due to the identification of the area as a high bush fire risk zone.
By burning the area, strategic protection will be put in place for private properties and community assets in the area in the event of an uncontrolled bush fire.
Nearby properties owners received notification of the burn in writing with local volunteer firefighters door knocking to provide additional notice this morning.
