THREE women captured the essence of the South West to win the South West Development Commission photography competition.
Out of more than 100 entries, 15 were selected to make the cut for next year’s Development Commission calendar.
Margaret River’s Brigitte Holzl and Daniela Tommasi, with Cowaramup’s Tracey Gregory all took part in the challenge, proving victorious with their shots.
Ms Tommasi took out two of the top spots, submitting images taken on a weekend watching kite and wind surfers on the ocean.
Ms Tommasi has been involved with photography for a number of years, even receiving silver in past International Loupe Awards, an open photography competition, for her work.
It is colour and people that Ms Tommasi ultimately aspires to capture in her work, with plans to enter bigger competitions in the future.
Ms Holzl entered the competition to ‘keep her busy’.
She loves wide angles and landscape shots, which will be seen when the calendar is released.
Ms Holzl said she was pleased her entry had done well as she considers this to be her life at the moment, taking photos and capturing the world around her.
Ms Tommasi and Ms Holzl are both a part of the Margaret River Camera Club, meeting the first Wednesday of every month to discuss ideas and experiment with new ways to capture a moment.
“We share whatever knowledge we can with each other,” Ms Tommasi said.
Unlike the two photography enthusiasts, Ms Gregory snapped her winning picture on her smart phone, considering the moment in time to be too precious not to capture.
In her winning entry, her two-year-old son Mitch is frolicking in the water on a sunny day at the beach.
“It was natural, him enjoying life, me taking a million pictures,” Ms Gregory said.
“I was a mum enjoying the moment and I thought it was beautiful.”
Each winning entry received a certificate, an autographed DVD of the film Drift and will be featured in the 2016 South West Development Commission calendar.
