A Collie resident has put a warning out to all pensioners after she received a threatening hoax phone call.
Brenda Hetherington received the call this morning that was meant for her father who is a pensioner.
A man who spoke with an Indian accent and claimed to be calling from the Australian Federal Police, threatened Ms Hetherington, that if her father didn’t pay his outstanding tax bill he will be arrested and imprisoned for six months.
Ms Hetherington believes the man was preying on pensioners and vulnerable people.
“The man became quite irate when I challenged him on the phone”.
The caller went on to say that if Ms Hetherington’s father, Cliff Fleay, had checked his emails he would be aware of the outstanding tax bill and the plan to arrest him if it is not payed.
This confirmed to Ms Hetherington that the call was a hoax as her father does not own a computer and does not in fact have an outstanding tax bill.
“I rang the local police and told them what happened, they confirmed that it was a hoax call,” Ms Hetherington said.
The number the man gave to Ms Hetherington to call was 612 903 74200, a number that police confirmed does not exist.
