The Augusta Margaret River Hawks sent Donnybrook home with plenty to think about after a 95-69 win today.
The match started evenly as the two squads probed for weaknesses but strong defence from both sides saw just one goal between them after the 20 minutes.
However the second quarter went nearly all the Hawks' way.
Seven goals to Donnybrook's three gave the Hawks a commanding lead thanks to midfield combinations that left Donnybrook flatfooted.
Richard Devitt, Brodie Bramich and Mitchell Lynn had a particularly strong quarter the keep the football down their half ready to be sent through the uprights.
A couple of late goals for Donnybrook as the half came to a close kept the second quarter being a complete whitewash.
While it looked like the Hawks could run away with the game Donnybrook coach David Lewis sent his team out firing in the second half.
"Donnybrook always has a strong second half," Hawks captain Mitch Gerrans said.
"They really wanted to win the game as much as we did."
The third quarter proved to be Donnybrook's strongest with them picking up four goals to the Hawks' to stay in the competition with only a scrambling defence from the Hawks letting more through.
Kick accuracy was a factor in the third quarter as players tired and the Hawks missed out on several goals at long range as shown by their high behind count.
A strong fourth quarter held Donnybrook to just one goal in the fourth quarter leaving the Hawks a commanding win.
"We're pretty happy with the win," Gerrans said.
"Donnybrook always comes with a strong team."
