Margaret River hosted the unbeaten Australind on Sunday and the final score does not do justice to the way the local team played.
In a thoroughly entertaining game enjoyed by the large Mother's Day crowd, both teams put on a great display of soccer in great spirit.
Once again the home team started slowly and allowed the opposition to dominate the early proceedings, which was understandable as the team had a few positional changes from previous weeks with players being absent.
Margaret River found themselves in arrears early on due to a costly error by the home side's defence.
But to the teams credit they took on a positive attitude and created numerous chances, but for poor finishing and excellent goal keeping the score line could have been a lot different at half time.
The second half saw more of the same, and finally the Margaret River team got their rewards from a great individual goal scored by Tom Collins.
Now the game was up for grabs and both teams were going for the win, with ten minutes to go Australind broke through the Margaret River defence and added a third shortly after from a well worked free kick.
The final whistle blew to end a great game, but although beaten the Margaret River team should be proud of their efforts and congratulations to 14 year old Angus Dowding who made his debut for league and certainly did himself proud.
The final score was 1-3.
The Foodroom man of the match went to Brendan Clarke.
Next week’s game is away at Hay park.
