FATHER, comedy writer, author and producer Steve Bedwell believes he has a strong ability to tap into the funny bone of the South West.
He plans to do this when he ventures over to Western Australia this week for a 10 date show series throughout the region.
First though, he has to spend as much quality time with his family as possible.
The proud father of a one year old with coup, with Bedwell himself experiencing a pattern of disrupted sleep for some unknown reason, the 4.15am wake-ups paired with a 15 year old cat that can never eat enough keeps Bedwell on his toes.
Bedwell summarised his life by the moment when he went to get nappies from a pharmacy for his child, only to be directed to the incontinence section.
A fan of down south sights such as Bunker Bay, Bedwell said he would bring with him a stand up show WA has never seen before, much like his appreciation for good wine.
A strong believer that a good joke is a good joke regardless of who it is performed to, Bedwell said his style of performing was not one that drew hecklers.
“Do not take that as a direct challenge Margaret River,” Bedwell said.
Bedwell said he couldn’t wait to compare the comedy scene in WA to that of the east coast, where the open mic night culture is increasingly stronger.
He believed young guys and gals making their way in the scene were really switched on, while there was still a contingent of ‘senior’ comedians who guided their way.
Declaring he was coming to WA to not only visit but also to secure a date with Gina Rinehart, Bedwell promises a mix of ‘heritage’ jokes and fresh material.
Oh, and a lot of Ben Cousins references.
Headlining this Thursday’s Comedy at Settlers Tavern, the east coast comedian will be joined by Fabien Clark as MC and a series of surprise guests to ease the crowd into their doubled over state.
Tickets are available for $10 online at settlerstavern.com or on the door for $15.
