Trainer Norm Gardner believes Nights On Fire will be a strong winning chance at Nowra on Sunday, despite having to carry 59 kilograms.
Nights On Fire has never won carrying more than 55kg, but had 58.5kg for her last-start second at Wagga.
"That's my biggest concern, the 59kg," Gardner said. "She's won three from 10 so far in her career though, so she probably deserves the weight."
Nights On Fire will line up in the $20,000 Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200 metres) at Nowra, having finished second over 1300m at the Wagga carnival.
Gardner believes the 100m drop in trip will suit her and expects the Shaft filly to be tough to beat. Jeff Penza will ride Nights On Fire from barrier five.
"There's not much of her. She's only a small filly, so we'll keep her to the 1200, and she likes the track a bit wet, too, which it should be."
Gardner said Nights On Fire would likely be spelled after Nowra.
"She's a young, progressive sort of horse, and I've got a lot of time for her," he said. "I think she'll make it down the track as a mid-week city horse. Probably next prep."
