More than 70 racers tore up the tracks around Wharncliffe Mill on Saturday for the Margaret River Trail Runners Duathalon.
Athletes of all ages took part in the event with younger children taking on a challenging obstacle course while the senior runners and cyclists took part in 7/20/2 run and cycle.
Race Director Rod Bennett said the event attracted a number of top quality runners due to its unique nature.
“We don’t know of any other trail duathalons in West Australia,” he said.
The eventual winner, and seasoned competitor, Brendon Dimmer said he enjoyed the Margaret River trail run more than any other race he has been in.
“It was amazing,” he said.
“We came here for something a bit more fun and it turned out to be more fun than I thought.”
Dimmer took off at a blistering place with a comfortable one minute lead at the half way mark through the first run.
“I wanted to take it slow but someone took off at a blistering pace,” he said.
“So I sped up and by then I had set my pace so kept going.”
