LEEUWIN Estate Winery owners Dennis and Tricia Horgan have received the highest honour in the wine and tourism industry.
The Horgans were awarded the WA Hospitality Industry Achievement Award at the Australian Hospitality Association (WA) Supplier Awards held at Crown Perth.
AHA chief executive officer Bradley Woods said the pair were icons of the hospitality industry and had been a significant contribution to Western Australian wine tourism being recognised amongst the best in the world.
The pair purchased the Leeuwin land when it remained a cattle farm in the 1960s, being recognised as a prime viticultural spot by 1974 when the winery was constructed.
From then on, Leeuwin Estate has been recognised not only for their wine creation, but their dining and entertainment experiences on offer year round, from the Leeuwin Concert Series to the multi award winning restaurant Art Gallery.
Mr Woods quoted Australian wine commentator James Halliday as saying the Estate was a class act with every facet of its business working with the precision of a Swiss watch.
He went on to say it stood at the very forefront of estate-based, family owned wineries.
