BUNBURY, Australind and Busselton residents have been urged to protect their vehicles from thieves after an increase in stealing across the police sub-districts.
Police have reported that the thefts are occurring on the street, in carparks, driveways and sometimes in garages.
Bunbury Police acting officer-in-charge Senior Seregant Ron Patchett said there had been a spate of thefts which did not follow a particular pattern.
“Any car could be a target for theft – it’s happening all over the place, not in particular suburbs,” Senior Sergeant Patchett said.
“Some cars you look at and know straight away why they were picked, because there’s a handbag on the seat or something, but it seems that thieves are trying three or four vehicles in a row whether they are locked or not.”
Senior Sergeant Patchett urged people to avoid leaving valuables in their vehicle for any length of time.
An analysis of the offences has shown it is likely the offenders are walking or riding a bike around the suburbs.
Police have asked for the community’s help in reporting any suspicious activity as soon as possible on 131 444.
“We may not turn up in your street but your piece might be the one that completes the puzzle,” Senior Sergeant Patchett said.
