A wild party has left a 25-year-old Margaret River man with a $12,500 hangover after being fined at Busselton Court on Tuesday, May 26.
Police said hundreds of people had turned up to the party with revelers spreading out onto the surrounding streets.
Residents called police about the noise but orders to shut the noise down were ignored.
The man was charged under the Environment Protection Act which resulted in the large fine.
“This is a big reminder to make sure when directed to turn the noise down to do so,” Margaret River Police officer in charge Sergeant Brett Cassidy said.
“This is a massive fine and a big deterrent to people.
“If you do not comply you will be charged under the Environmental Protection Act.”
Sergeant Cassidy recommends party planners register their party with West Australia Police and take steps to ensure they do not get out of hand.
“We recommend people never put their parties on social media,” he said.
“A lot of parties get out of control after being spread around on social media sites.
“Also make sure you have an exit strategy for getting people out when the party is over.
“Drink responsibly and have non-alcoholic drinks on hand.”
Parties can be registered by visiting the West Australia Police Page.
