A man and woman are dead and another young woman is in a critical condition after three road crashes outside Perth over the past two days.
WA's horror road toll continues to grow, with the crashes bringing the State's road deaths to 67 for the year. WA is well on the way to beating last year's total for the year of 184 deaths, with two-thirds of road deaths typically occurring in the second half of the year.
The current toll is two above the total recorded by May 18, 2014 and seven above the total recorded by May 18, 2013.
WA Police spokeswoman Susan Usher said at about 4.35pm in Rockingham on Wednesday a Holden Rodeo travelling south on Ennis Avenue allegedly rear-ended a Nissan Patrol, causing it to hit a Mazda utility, which in turn hit a Nissan Navara.
The 23-year-old woman driving the Nissan Patrol was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Ms Usher said about 2.45pm on Thursday, a KTM off-road motorcycle was travelling along a gravel track in the Yoganup area when it hit a rock.
The rider, a 29-year-old East Bunbury man, lost control, hit a tree, and died at the scene.
Finally, about 6.10pm that evening, a Holden Commodore was travelling east on Graphite Road near Paganini Road in Glenoran failed to negotiate a bend and mounted the gravel shoulder.
The 33-year-old woman driving died at the scene after losing control and hitting a tree.
Regarding the first incident in Rockingham police have charged the driver of the Rodeo, a 35-year-old Wannanup man.
He is due to appear at Rockingham Magistrates Court on June 2 charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Double demerits began at 12.01am Friday morning for the WA Day long weekend and will continue until 11.59pm on Monday.
Double demerit points apply for these offences:
-Speeding
-Drivers not wearing seatbelts
-Drink driving
-Driving on drugs, or failing to supply saliva or a blood sample
-Illegal mobile phone use
-Running a red light
